The project site is located west of the railway station in the center of Lund, west of the church of St. Peter’s Priory. The site contains the historic Hedda Anderssongymnasiet building, the parking lot, and the landscaped areas to the north and south. The project started with a study of the Hedda Anderssongymnasiet building in the base, its history as a local court building and the history of the building’s additions. In order to preserve the axial relationship of the building and the unity of the façade. We cleared the eastern part of the courtroom addition in 2003 and the northern part of the temporary school office area added after 2010. The current parking area was returned to the northwest side of the base (where the parking lot used to be in the last century). This leaves a sufficient encounter area between Hedda Anderssongymnasiet and St. Peter’s Priory Church.

The main function of the building is a learning center, which functions as a continuation of the school building on the west side and as a public platform for the public to come and study. As a key area connecting the Hedda Anderssongymnasiet and St. Peter’s Priory Church, the underground plaza of the learning center is connected to the roofs of both buildings from the east-west axis. As the parking lot is moved to the north side, the east plaza of the learning center becomes a pedestrian street and an outdoor recreation area, making the church courtyard more lively through the activities of the public. clearer.

The interior of the building is divided into the north side, the center and the south side. The north side contains the Large Hall, Mid Hall, and the cafe restaurant area. The center contains a grand staircase lounge area, a gym and a curatorial activity area. The south side is designed with a public study and reading area on the first floor and the basement level and a relatively private study room in Mid Hall. The center of the building is more public to the north and more private to the south. The small building separating the west side of the learning center is equipped with four Small halls and a common kitchen that can be used independently after the east side of the learning center is closed for the evening.

The roof of the building is divided into three pieces from the north, center and south sides, decreasing in height from the north side to the south side. The horizontal rhythm of the column columns on the east elevation creates a more interesting vertical rhythm. As the interior space design deepened, we further subdivided the east and west sides of the roof into six roofs.

The structure of the building went through several rounds of modifications. In order to reduce the impact of the interior load-bearing columns on the open space, we modified the beam system from the beginning to the truss system. The column columns on the east and west sides and the column columns on the central axis were used as the main load-bearing columns. The truss was optimized at a later stage by subtracting the ring beam structure and introducing prefabricated structural groups and tension members in the roof structure layer to better match the load-bearing of each roof piece by the large span beam.

The building façade was adjusted nearly ten times, from the original whole façade to the buffer area. From a pure slats façade to a partition wall of 1500mm apart. The roof structure and the glass façade are combined to form a more rational façade rhythm.

Notably, the west wall of the church was opened up to match the plaza on the east side of the learning center. The landscape section was redesigned. The building is more in tune with the surrounding environment in terms of topography.

During the past three months, the building has undergone mountless adjustments. The building has been adjusted and deepened in a mountless way. For example, roof, structure, interior, elevation, etc. We have listed the typical 14 diagrams to give you a better understanding of the process.
